An up-and-coming actress most known for her role as Sharon in Battlestar Galatica is in Regina this week to shoot a short film.

Grace Park is playing a young immigrant in the eight-minute short directed by Maurico Carvajal. The film, The First Days, follows the story of a young man in a new nation struggling to build a life for himself.

“I've always really wanted to do a short,” she said . “It's always nice to do Canadian projects.”

Park also stars in Global television’s newest crime thriller, the remake of the 1970s hit, Hawaii Five-0.

Park says the big-budget action adventure allows to afford quick trips around the country to shoot other things.

“I was surprised to be flown out to Regina,” she said. “I'm at the Hotel Saskatchewan, which is beautiful, and then we even had a per diem.”

First Days director Carvajal says while most of his cast is made up of local actors, he is happy Park said yes to play a role in his film.

Park landed the part because of a longstanding friendship with one of the directors and filming happened to fall during a gap in her schedule.

“Having Grace is a fantastic opportunity for me for sure, and for everybody,” Carvajal said.
