Hulo Films & KarmaFilm gearing up for the 2010 Yorkton Film Festival!
Hulo Films and KarmaFilm had such a good time at the Yorkton Film Festival last year, so of course we will all be attending this year!
“Last year was a blast at the Lobsterfest,” said KarmaFilm producer Anand Ramayya. “Skeet shooting and networking with all my favourite people from across the world… Who thought you could have so much fun at a film festival! Plus it was a great honour to go home with a couple beautiful and hefty Golden Sheaf Awards. I’m looking forward to another great festival this year!”
Collectively in 2009, Hulo and Karma had 11 Golden Sheaf nominations, received five of the prestigious statues, and had four festival screenings.
Tera (nee Schneider) Maguire, who is an associate producer & publicist with Hulo, and also happens to be from Yorkton, had this to say about the Festival: “Growing up in Yorkton I heard about the Festival and saw it being promoted all around town, but I never really realized how big of a deal it was until I got into the film industry."
“It was an honour to go back to my hometown where my family still lives and to see filmmakers and broadcasters that are very well‐respected across the country enjoy the Festival so much. I am really looking forward to the Official Festival After Party again. It’s such a great way to celebrate the weekend.”
The After Party gets underway following the Awards Gala on Saturday night. It is sponsored by Hulo, Karma, Great Western Brewing and The Spot Nightclub & Ultralounge.
Some other great memories from the Hulo & Karma gang…
Brad Merkle, Hulo Films editor: “That perogy meal was well worth the five hours of driving, and we won some awards.”
Kelly Balon, KarmaFilm associate producer: “I’m looking forward to shooting guns with broadcasters, but not looking forward to getting shot down by broadcasters.”
Aidin Nakhai, Hulo Films director: “Getting filmmakers together and giving them beer and shot guns was a great idea!”
We are looking forward to heading out to Yorkton for another great Festival this year, and we will be cheering on Anand and everyone with Wapos Bay Inc. for their five 2010 Golden Sheaf nominations!
